Time For Some Office Fun?

Rubber wheels, cushioned seat and ready, set, roll! Who would have thought that office chairs could be the next big racing device? We kid you not, annual office chair races are now being held annually in Germany. They are called The Office Chair Racing World Championship and the third event was held last year in Bad Koening, with contestants traveling from Luxembourg, Cologne and Stuttgart to participate. There are hills, ramps and jumps and even a crowd cheering the contestants on. One thing can be said for sure: no matter how many races there are out there, there is nothing like racing professionally in an office chair!

The Revolving World Of Chairs

It seems it was always about the game of seats. Now when I look at it, with a wider vision and a narrowed perspective; ever since time started for us, we were drawn towards them. As a kid I always wanted to sit on the chair rather than laps, I haven’t been able to decipher, don’t they understand we just keep slipping, and they constantly pull us up.

At school it was always the chair on which the teacher sat, I always envisioned myself there. Then they just kept changing as did my ambitions, once I even wanted a place in the movie director’s chair, but dreams are after all meant to be as farfetched as they can be.

Now as I have my own cubicle, computer, stationery and piles of work, I still am not fully satisfied, because the chair here is not that comfortable. Indeed I am eyeing the big one, yet I am waiting for the exceptional one that will be meant solely for me.

A Chair For The Rich?

What is the first thing you think when you hear office chair? When you asked professionals, they will say “it’s only a chair”. When you asked a bum, he will say “a chair for the rich”. But when you asked a child what an office chair is, imagination explodes.

I will share to you some experience I encountered with my 4 year old niece. One boring day, I decided to go to my work along with my niece. As we enter into my working room, she then saw a big and black chair which is mine behind my desk. As I make myself up in the bathroom, she screamed with excitement. As I rushed going to her and saw her sitting in the chair, I asked her what happened.  She said that she saw a lever of the chair and she accidentally pushed it and the chair suddenly pulled up. As my working hours passed by, my niece told me when we are leaving is “Your chair is very amazing! How much is that chair? I want one in my room. ” I asked why she wanted one in her room. She said, “That chair is everything that it can be a car, spaceship, and a bed.” As we went home, I think about how a child can imagine that.

See, into this little experience, I realized the answers of professionals and bums. We only see things as they are, that office chair is only a chair but to the eyes of a child, it can be everything. If we only see what a child see, the contentment in this world will be solved.
